Nordplus project Sustainability: Global Problems and Local Solutions. Students’ conference in Denmark Odsherred, 7-12 April 2024: Sustainable Food Production. Day 5

 

Friday the 12th of April

 

The last day of the conference took place in Copenhagen, where we visited “ØsterGRO”.




ØsterGro is the first Rooftop Agriculture project in Denmark. This city farm is 600 square metres and here the citizens can experience the process of food production. The project offers tours, workshops, education and dinners to show the ‘farm to fork’ route of organic vegetables.





Østergro is a CSA organization (Community Supported Agriculture) and supplies 40 local families with vegetables during the harvesting season.

 



Imagine a rooftop filled with soil, vegetables, bees, chickens, rabbits, earthworms and compost-making, harvesting, workshops, community - and a restaurant!









The goal and vision of ØsterGro is to make the city greener, to make ecosystems less strange to city people, and to spread local communities centered around food and organic farming.

Presentations about Sustainability in Haapsalu Presentations about our field trips Photos and videos On the fourth day, we were separated into teams and had three workshops at school. The first workshop was preparing to present our case on whether Haapsalu is a sustainable town. Later, we made presentations about the second day's Adventures in the Silma educational center and the third day's field trip to Veskijärve-Nõva-Peraküla. The presentations had to include information about what we got to know and did there during these days. In the second workshop, each team had to present both of their presentations. Finally, in the third workshop, we made Instagram reels from the pictures we had taken throughout the conference. In the evening we had a final party in the school's cellar. We ate pizza and pretzels and played a few group games: Kahoot, hide-and-seek, and the chair game.

Teachers' Prepatory Meeting in Tampere

  The teachers ' prepatory meeting took place between 5th December and 8th December 2022. We all met in Tampere as we had received Nordplus funding for the prepatory meeting . Here are some of the highlights of the meeting .    6th December   2022 After meeting , greeting and updating on the latest developments in each school , we started working on the Nordplus application . As 6th December is the independence day in Finland, the school was completely empty and we had plenty of room to spread out and work .            We had lunch in Nanda Devi, a nice Indian restaurant and resumed working in the afternoon . Mapping the situation. Photo gallery On the first day, we had our conference opened by the headteacher of Läänemaa Ühisgümnaasium Gina Metssalu. That was followed up with the introductory presentation on the topic of Sustainability by the Nordplus project Coordinator Katja Mokhovikova. We continued with ice-breaker games which helped us to get to know each other better and become close and personal with everyone . After a small break, we presented the homework that we had prepared about our hometowns: Haapsalu, Tampere and Asnæs. Each of us presented the positive and negative aspects of the nature of our hometowns. All of us also prepared a small introduction to our schools.
